Places to stay

There are are three places in Playa Muerto where you can spend a night, a week, or a couple of months. Scroll down to learn more...

Place 1 --  Beach Bungalow: La Casita Suiza

As part of our continuous efforts to enable the people of Playa Muerto to create sustainable local income streams, in 2018 we have funded the construction of a beach bungalow that visitors can rent for their stay. It is managed by the locals and 100% of revenue stays within the community.

The wooden bungalow on stilts is built in traditional Embera style and comprises one large room with a double and two single beds. The big veranda facing the ocean is spacious enough to put up the four provided hammocks. There is a basic but well-equipped kitchen with running fresh water and a gas stove. The bathroom stands separate from the bungalow and has a shower and WC.

La Casita Suiza will host a maximum of 5 people (1 person sleeping in a hammock or on an extra mattress). There is no electricity, but there are solar lamps for basic lighting. Sheets and blankets are provided. Please bring your own towels.

The bungalow is located on the most beautiful strip of the beach village, at the perfect distance (approx. 500m) from the village center where the life is happening and basic groceries, fresh fish, and vegetables can be purchased.  You can choose to cook all meals for yourself, or have the villagers provide you with tasty traditionally cooked meals that you can relish at home or at their "home restaurant".

Reservations and inquiries can be made with our bungalow manager Eli via Whatsapp at +507 6531-1349. Please allow several days for response, as Playa Muerto's relatively new internet connection is very unreliable. If you cannot get hold of Eli, you can try to Whatsapp the village chief Eliezer at +507 6342-3387, or call the public village phone at +507 838-6028 and ask for either of them. Spanish only ;-)

Place 2 --Beach Huts: Neponotorro

Right at the beach near the village center, the well-organized group called "Nepo" have built two basic beach huts for visitors. The small one sleeps 2 to 3 people, the bigger one up to 6. They both comprise a single room and a veranda and they share a separate basic bathroom with shower and WC. There is a dining hall where the locals cook and serve all meals for you.

Prices are around USD 10 to 30 per night, depending on number of guests. Reservations and inquiries can be made with Rangel via Whatsapp at +507 6720-1200. Please allow several days for response, as Playa Muerto's relatively new internet connection is very unreliable. You can also try to call the public village phone at +507 838-6028 and ask for Rangel or Riguar.

Place 3 --Jungle Dorm Hut: Meabemade

Located on a serene patch of land amidst trees a 100 metres back from the beach, another village group built a grand traditional hut that sleeps up to 12 people in dormitory style. There are no walls, yet 2 separate bathrooms. There also is a separate dining hall where the locals cook and serve all meals for you.

Prices are around USD 30 per person and night for dorm with full board. Reservations and inquiries can be made with the village chief Eliezer via Whatsapp at +507 6342-3387. Please allow several days for response, as Playa Muerto's relatively new internet connection is very unreliable. You can also try to call the public village phone at +507 838-6028 and ask for Eliezer.
